Social Media

Social media is one of the greatest changes to society since the industrial revolution, and its changing the way the world works.

So do you tweet? What’s the use of online friends and fans?

When we talk about social media it invariably boils down to a discussion of the two big players in the market, Twitter and Facebook. These two sites have emerged as huge hubs for online communication, collaboration and networking. The audience captured by these sites is massive. Their memberships are in the hundreds of millions. And it's certainly not just for teenagers anymore.

With such a huge audience it isn't surprising that businesses didn't take too long to start trying to tap into it. And with this corporate attention, social media is turning into a bit of a gold rush. Lots of people smell money (or read about it in books) and are jumping on the band wagon. A lot of people are getting burned by 'social media experts' and others are getting hurt because they have no idea at all.

But how does this really help your business? It all depends on how you use it. A client of ours recently discussed how he secured a booking for a function for over 100 people just through Twitter. Other businesses we work with use Facebook and Twitter to post competitions where the users have to go to their website to complete. By tracking the source of the visitors you then find out what people are doing on your site (did a user from Facebook buy something from your shop? Did they email an enquiry or booking?).
